FOIA Request to Swain County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Nantahala News have sent a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1.

Our request is specifically for an electronic format list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The details we have asked for include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

In addition to these basic details about each candidate, we have also requested contact information for each one. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as a media organization. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to update our readers as more information becomes available and look forward to sharing detailed profiles of each candidate in the lead-up to the election.
