The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System is currently facing a significant financial challenge, with a reported $42 million shortfall. This development has sparked criticism from the Forsyth County GOP, who have attributed the deficit to what they describe as “gross Democrat mismanagement.”
The local Republican group expressed their dissatisfaction with the current Democratic majority on the School Board, citing several issues that have arisen since the Democrats took control. These include decisions related to the school system’s response to COVID-19, discussions about potentially eliminating the Choice Plan, and proposals such as a new “Code of Conduct.”
The Forsyth County GOP emphasized that this financial issue is not due to inadequate funding from Republican County Commissioners or Republicans in Raleigh. They stated, “Our local School System NEVER faced such issues when it was Republican controlled and led by Republican School Board members!”
In response to these concerns, the FCGOP is urging local Republicans to reach out to their representatives. They are calling for residents to “email or call all of our local Republican School Board members and County Commissioners” and encourage them to advocate for accountability and fiscal responsibility.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions between political parties regarding educational management and funding within Forsyth County.
