Harris Regional Hospital’s New Generations Family Birthing Center has delivered its 600th baby this year, marking a significant milestone for the facility in western North Carolina. The center continues to be recognized as a key provider of maternity care in the region.
Sydney Conley, a sixth-grade math teacher at Cullowhee Valley School, gave birth to her second child, Kase, at the center. She also delivered her first child there and cited trust and familiarity as reasons for returning. “This season of life has been incredibly sweet for our family,” Conley said. “There wasn’t a single staff member who didn’t make me feel cared for. When it came time to have our second baby, I knew exactly where I wanted to be.”
Conley added that having caregivers from the local community made her experience more meaningful. “You’re not just a patient here,” she said. “You’re part of a community that truly wants the best for you.”
The hospital emphasized that reaching 600 births highlights the importance of accessible maternity care in western North Carolina. Savannah Hicks Baylon, MSN, RN, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Harris Regional Hospital, commented on the achievement: “Our birthing center is built on decades of service to community members like Sydney and her family. Many members of our team have spent years and even entire careers caring for families here. Reaching this milestone reflects the skill, teamwork and heart that define this unit and the trust families place in us.”
The New Generations Family Birthing Center provides maternity services with support from a Level II Special Care Nursery capable of caring for babies born as early as 32 weeks gestation. The facility offers round-the-clock obstetric coverage, personalized birth plans, breastfeeding support, and care from board-certified OB/GYNs and certified nurse midwives.
Ashley Hindman, chief executive officer of Harris Regional Hospital, noted: “This milestone reflects a proud legacy of care that families have relied on for generations. Reaching 600 births this year underscores the expertise of our team and our commitment to ensuring families can receive exceptional care close to home.”
