Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital have initiated comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs) to address the health issues in Jackson and Swain counties. These assessments involve separate surveys for each county, conducted through Harris Regional Hospital for Jackson County and Swain Community Hospital for Swain County. The purpose is to identify current health challenges, set priorities, and guide future community health investments.
The CHNA process involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data on community health to pinpoint factors affecting well-being and evaluate available local resources. This initiative follows previous assessments completed three years ago by both hospitals, aiming to measure progress and identify remaining needs. The assessments are expected to conclude in May, with results shared publicly.
Ashley Hindman, CEO of both hospitals, stated: “We’re excited to launch this new cycle of community health assessments and to build on the important progress we’ve made since our last CHNA.” Hindman emphasized the importance of listening to local voices to tailor services effectively.
The CHNAs will integrate new data with existing information from various health agencies. In June, focus groups will gather community input on survey findings. Residents, hospital employees, and providers will discuss current health issues and desired changes.
“The surveys will allow us to hear directly from the community about their concerns and ideas for improving health in Jackson and Swain counties,” said Hindman.
Strata supports the CHNA process by collecting and analyzing data. Results will be reviewed by hospital leadership for future planning. Following data collection, a Community Health Summit in each county will review findings and invite public input into action planning.
“Our goal is not just to produce a report but to create a living, breathing plan that leads to meaningful action,” Hindman added.
