Savannah Hicks Baylon, MSN, RN, the Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Harris Regional Hospital, has recently welcomed her second child, Tatum Michell Baylon, at the New Generations Family Birthing Center. This department is where she leads in providing maternal healthcare services.
The birth is highlighted in Harris Regional’s Western Carolina University (WCU) Baby of the Month campaign. This campaign celebrates the hospital’s partnership with WCU, acknowledges the New Generations birthing team’s care, and recognizes families with university ties.
Baylon, who started her career at Harris Regional in 2017 as a staff nurse, expressed a long-standing passion for leadership. “I left in 2020 to gain additional experience, always with the intention of one day returning,” Baylon mentioned. She returned in 2024 to assume her current directorial role. She stated, “The most rewarding part for me is serving my community and always looking for ways to enhance our service line.”
Her academic achievements include a master’s in nursing leadership from Western Carolina University, completed in 2020. Baylon is also pursuing a Culturally-Based Native Health Certificate at WCU. This program, developed collaboratively by WCU, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Wake Forest University, focuses on culturally oriented training for healthcare providers serving Native communities. Baylon’s studies reflect her commitment to improving healthcare in rural and Indigenous populations.
The birth of Tatum signifies a deeply personal and professional moment for Baylon. “My staff did an amazing job. I could not have asked for a better experience,” Baylon expressed. “I am very lucky to have such an outstanding team.”
Baylon, her husband Junior, and their children, Juna, Ezilah, and Bryce, are delighted to welcome their new family member, Tatum. His birth exemplifies the compassionate and high-quality care provided at the New Generations Family Birthing Center.
Harris Regional Hospital states its pride in being part of significant life events, whether for first-time parents or those who aid in delivering new lives daily.
