Rep. Clampitt files bill in North Carolina House to fund infrastructure and education

A new bill filed by State Rep. Mike Clampitt in the North Carolina House seeks to enhance infrastructure, education, and community support across multiple counties in North Carolina, according to the North Carolina State House.

The bill, filed as HB 395 on March 13 during the 2025 regular session, was formally listed with the short title: ‘Funds/Jackson, Transylvania & Swain Counties.’

In essence, this bill allocates substantial nonrecurring funds for fiscal year 2025-26 to enhance infrastructure, higher education, and nonprofit support across Swain, Jackson, and Transylvania counties in North Carolina. Notably, Swain County receives $13.2 million for fire department equipment, emergency services, and water and sewer improvements. Jackson County is granted $18.6 million for renovations, fire department facilities, and educational enhancements. Transylvania County benefits from over $93.7 million, primarily for wastewater treatment, educational projects, and community safety. Funding is also designated for Southwestern and Blue Ridge Community Colleges and Western Carolina University, supporting facilities and program expansions. Additionally, substantial grants are provided to nonprofits and science museums impacted by Hurricane Helene, emphasizing disaster recovery and community readiness. This act takes effect July 1, 2025.
