Raleigh – North Carolina state Sen. Brent Jackson, R-Raleigh, lauded relief funds to be appropriated for Hurricane Florence recovery after the passage of Senate Bill 828, which he co-sponsored, in a newsletter sent out recently.
Jackson described in his newsletter appropriations in the bill intended to support relief from Hurricane Florence. Many of the appropriations are meant to repair or replace facilities and equipment damaged in the storm. Others provide financial support to those affected by the hurricane.
For instance, the bill earmarks $23 million to the state’s Department of Public Instruction for repairing and renovating its facilities. The state’s Department of Agriculture received $240 million for its Hurricane Florence Agricultural Disaster Program to provide support to farmers who lost crops. The Department of Environmental Quality was allotted $10 million to aid commercial fishermen. Meanwhile, the Wildlife Resources Commission was given $50,000 to fund a study concerning boats abandoned during the hurricane.
Jackson released the newsletter Dec. 5.
