40 percent of applicants to Western Carolina University were admitted for fall 2018

At Western Carolina University, 83 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 55 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Cullowhee enrolled 11,639 students in fall 2018, including 10,027 in undergraduate and 1,612 in graduate programs, data shows. 11 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

85 percent of undergraduates are residents of North Carolina, and 13 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (79 percent) and Hispanic or Latino (7 percent).

The school admitted 40 percent of the 19,344 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 29 percent enrolled.
