Blackhistory

Andrews Public Library issued the following announcement on Jan. 25.

One Dozen Who Care, Inc., in collaboration with Nantahala Regional Library is hosting an intergenerational reading challenge for children in kindergarten through 12th grade during the month of February. This event promotes picture books, biographies, novels, and history books in the Purel Miller African American Book Collection. Named for a beloved former Andrews resident, the Collection encourages greater cultural understanding and is currently housed at Andrews Public Library. Children are asked to read and review age appropriate books in the Miller Collection. Children should read their books with or to an adult older than eighteen. For each review, the children will receive $5 with a maximum of $20 awarded per child. Reviews must be submitted no later than Saturday, March 5 to the following email address: pmcreadingchallenge@gmail.com. Incentives will be awarded during the week of March 7-11. Find the event flyer, book lists, and review form here: https://www.nrlibrary.org/pmc.
