Andrews Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 14.
The Andrews Police Department recently acquired a K-9 that will be used to locate illegal drugs within area buildings, vehicles and parcels.
After K-9 Kiera — a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois — completes narcotics training, she and her handler Officer Megan Selby will undergo a series of evaluations to become certified in narcotics detection pursuant to national K-9 certification standards.
“We’re looking forward to Kiera and Megan being certified to deter the illicit sales of narcotics and bring back health and safety to the Town of Andrews,” Police Chief Rocky Burrell said.
The department expects Kiera to be active on the streets of Andrews in the near future.
