CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS HAYESVILLE: Courtenay Sumpter The 2022-2023 District Exceptional Children Educator of Excellence

Clay County Schools Hayesville issued the following announcement on May 16.

Clay County Schools Exceptional Children’s program proudly announces Courtenay Sumpter as the 2022-2023 District Exceptional Children Educator of Excellence.

Courtenay joined CCS as our districtwide School Psychologist in August of 2015.

Courtenay works in all our schools in various capacities:

-evaluating students referred for suspected disabilities and those referred for our Academically & Intellectually Gifted program, writing  endless numbers of evaluation reports for those evaluated

-participates on the:

—HES School Improvement Team

—District MTSS Team, working hand-in-hand for our school-level and districtwide MTSS implementation

—District Student Support Team

—District Autism Support Team

—works directly with students in need

—analyzes documentation for Out-of-State Transfer students for NC eligibility for special education

—completes ECATS documentation for Initial EC placements and Re-Evaluations

—is instrumental in the transition from the previous "15-point discrepancy eligibility" to our current MTSS standards for eligibility

—represents Clay County Schools at the NCDPI Lead Related Services Meeting for School Psychologists

Courtenay will represent Clay County Schools at the 2022 NCDPI State Exceptional Children Conference in November and be honored with a special reception along with other Exceptional Children's Educators of Excellence from across the state.
