Mission Health issued the following announcement on July 15.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after witnessing or experiencing a life-threatening or traumatic event, and it can present differently for everyone.
If you or a loved one is experiencing these symptoms, talk to a doctor or mental health care provider. The good news is that there are treatment options available. For information about our mental health resources, visit https://bit.ly/3R9A43Z
What is it like to have PTSD? (post-traumatic stress disorder)
PTSD may present differently for everyone.
There are four types of PTSD symptoms:
1. Re-experiencing or reliving the event (nightmares, flashbacks, triggers)
2. Hyperarousal or being on guard (being jittery or overly alert, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, feeling angry or irritable)
3. Avoidance (avoiding crowds; avoiding certain smells, sights or sounds; avoiding talking or thinking about the event)
4. Negative changes in beliefs and feelings (feeling guilty or ashamed, losing interest in things you used to enjoy, unable to trust others)
