MISSION HEALTH: It's NICU Awareness Month

Mission Health issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.

It's NICU Awareness Month!

Mission Children's Hospital is home to the region's only Level III Neonatal ICU. Our team strives to actively partner with parents to provide specialized care for high-risk newborns born with infections and respiratory, surgical, or genetic diagnoses and babies born prematurely.

In addition, the team strives to actively partner with parents to provide compassionate and outstanding care. Athena Carver, an educator for our teams, shares, "One of the most enjoyable parts of being a NICU nurse is building incredible bonds with patients and their families and watching them grow." Thank you for providing support to our tiny patients and their families.

As we continue to honor NICU Nurses Awareness month, we are pleased to share that Mission Hospital is installing 60 cameras in our NICU and PICU over the next several weeks. NicView is an innovative small camera system placed at designated bed spaces in the NICU and allows parents, family, and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through a secure online portal. This service helps families develop that bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant even when they can't be in the NICU, adding peace of mind and providing reassurance when you can't be at the bedside.
