FOIA Request Sent to Cherokee County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Cherokee County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Nantahala News have sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Cherokee County Election Department. The request was made for records of all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The specific details requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and their party affiliation. We also asked for all contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a positive response from the Cherokee County Election Department and will continue striving towards providing comprehensive news coverage that serves our readers.
