Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital have announced the appointment of Rebekah Artman as their new Senior Nursing Officer. Artman will oversee nursing operations at both facilities, which are part of Duke LifePoint hospitals.
Artman's appointment follows Stephen Plemmons' transition to market vice president of operations for Harris, Haywood, and Swain hospitals. Artman is a seasoned nurse leader with experience in hospital leadership and quality enhancement. Her career began at Harris Regional Hospital in 2007 as a certified nursing assistant while attending nursing school. She has since advanced through various leadership roles, most recently serving as assistant chief nursing officer for Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina, and Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital in Elko, Nevada.
Ashley Hindman, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital, expressed enthusiasm about Artman's return: "We are thrilled to welcome Rebekah back to Harris and Swain in this leadership role," she said. "Her deep connection to our community, combined with her extensive leadership experience and dedication to patient-centered care, makes her an incredible asset to our hospitals."
Artman earned her registered nursing license in 2009 and excelled as an ICU nurse before moving into leadership roles focused on nursing retention, patient safety, and evidence-based care at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She has been involved with Lifepoint Health’s ACNO program, working closely with chief nursing officers across multiple hospitals.
Stephen Plemmons praised Artman's capabilities: "Rebekah’s reputation as a strong leader and advocate for both patients and staff is well known," he said. "Her dedication to nursing excellence and ability to build collaborative, high-performing teams will ensure our nursing teams will continue to thrive."
A native of Robbinsville, North Carolina, Artman looks forward to returning to the region. She remains committed to supporting nurses and championing patient care.
