House representatives in North Carolina passed House Bill 1023 last month, also known as the Storm Recovery Act of 2019. The new bill will help provide relief to state residents who have been affected by natural disasters. The budget will allocate $280 million to communities throughout North Carolina counties.
The funds are primarily for residents who were affected by Hurricanes Mathew, Florence, Dorian and other major storms. Since 2016, about $1 billion has been allocated for storm relief in the region.
Rep. John Bell, who has served in the House for four terms, is happy that North Carolina residents are continuing to get the support they need.
"Thank goodness we are a state that is fiscally responsible, that is prepared for disasters, to provide relief to victims who desperately need our help in recovery,” he said in a statement released by the North Carolina Republican Party. “Where schools were devastated, where infrastructure was devastated, we’re helping them rebuild, and we’re doing it in the right way that is sustainable over the long-term.”
