Franklin Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Ida will reach Macon County Tuesday afternoon and affect our area into early Wednesday morning. Gusty winds and heavy downpours could cause flooding in low lying areas. Although rainfall amounts are not predicted to be excessive across much of the county, the southern facing slopes, particularly near the Highlands and Scaly Mountain areas in southern Macon County, could see 4" of rainfall and possibly locally heavier amounts. Ida caused severe damage to the Gulf Coast region earlier today. It does appear that any fuel disruptions often caused by hurricanes and tropical Storms in that region will not be an issue with this storm.
Residents should monitor local media outlets for weather information. Do not drive through flooded roadways. If you live in flood prone areas be prepared for isolated flooding events.
