CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS HAYESVILLE: Information From The Folk School About Their Summer Program!

Summerkids

Clay County Schools issued the following announcement on Mar. 25.

Applications for Little Middle Folk School are opening on Tuesday, March 22 at 9 a.m. Little Middle dates are June 20–24, 2022.

Little Middle is a chance for youth ages 7–17 to discover Appalachian culture and take part in hands-on arts and craft classes, activities and more at the Folk School. Groups will be divided into two – Littles are rising second graders to rising sixth graders and Middles are rising seventh graders to rising twelfth graders. We’ll have classes in basketry, weaving, painting, music, blacksmithing, woodworking, and so much more. At the end of the week, all the students are able to share their work, and there will be other fun things sprinkled throughout the week for people to enjoy.

We do have scholarships available this year for Little Middle! Like last year, we included the scholarship application on the Little Middle application – it won’t be a separate form. It’s just a series of quick questions, one asking if the applicant lives in Cherokee or Clay County, and the other to describe why Little Middle might be a financial hardship without assistance. We have a limited number of scholarships available for Cherokee/Clay County residents and they will fill quickly. I always encourage folks to apply right when the application goes live.

Here’s a link to the website where it’ll give all the details on Little Middle this year, along with the class schedule and COVID protocols/vaccination requirements.

On the application, parents can register up to four children. The application for Little Middle will be available on March 22 at our Slideroom link here. There is a $5 non-refundable application fee.
