Town of Bryson City issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
The Town of Bryson City is hiring a full-time Water Treatment Plant Specialist (Trainee).
Statement of Duties
To participate in the operation and maintenance of the Town of Bryson City’s Class B Water Plant, and the delivery of safe, clean and sufficient quantities of water to meet the needs of the community. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent/ORC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform tests to ensure water quality. Calculate chemical dosages based on the previous tests.
• Conduct regular inspections of the Plant and associated equipment, for proper and safe operation and take corrective action when necessary.
• Collects samples for testing.
• Performs plant maintenance, grounds keeping, and housekeeping duties;
• Calibrate equipment and maintain the equipment used to calibrate.
• Maintains reasonable and predictable attendance;
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.
• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis, climb stairs, ladders, work inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions.
Required Education/Desirable Education
• Graduation from High School or GED Equivalency
• Experience operating a water treatment plant is desired.
• An Associate Degree is desirable.
• Additional water related education certifications in fields such as distribution, well etc. is also desirable.
General/Special Requirements
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver License.
• Possession of a C Surface Water Treatment Certification License. NCWTFOCB (Trainees must pass the certification test within one year of employment)
Salary: Starting pay is $14.00/hour
