Harris Regional Hospital is joining forces with Smoky Mountain High School to offer complimentary sports physicals to students in Jackson County. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and will be hosted in the newly built gym at Smoky Mountain High School.

Medical staff from Harris Regional Hospital will be present to conduct physical examinations and health screenings for students preparing for athletic participation. The screenings will cover critical health metrics, including blood pressure, weight, and overall health status, assessing the students' capability to handle the physical strain of sports activities.

While the presence of a parent or guardian is recommended, students can undergo the physical alone if their forms are completed and signed beforehand.

CEO Ashley Hindman stated, “This event removes barriers and makes it easy for families to get their athletes ready for the season. We’re proud to support the health of our local students and help them prepare for a successful year in sports.”

Sports physicals play a vital role in safeguarding young athletes by identifying potential health risks and setting a health benchmark prior to the start of the sports year. These preventive steps are not only crucial for immediate health but also for encouraging prolonged physical wellness, enabling students to engage in sports safely.
